Standing like a tree with my roots down low and my branches wide and open
Down came the rain down to the earth to fulfill my needs
I am standing so free

Description of Classes:

Pain Free Yoga - is the class for many new persons wishing to practice yoga. That is especially true if they are injured, out of shape or have chronic pain.  As a long time teacher of yoga I have come to recognize that the typical yoga class is often too much for many people.  I often hear how excited people are to join in on a yoga program only for them to feel frustrated and defeated soon after.  I really want everyone to have a entry into yoga that helps them stay in and feel hopeful.  Since I have been teaching Pain Free the past 2 years I have had so many people tell me that finally there is a yoga class that they can do and one they actually enjoy doing.  These students often go on to the more traditional yoga classes and do very well.  Did you know that every joint, muscle and bone has a particular job to do and when we don't do certain movements that our bodies need, injury and disease will result.  These are very simple exercises that anyone can do and yet you will gain so much benefit.  I used this program while teaching in a pain clinic where there were many different types of injuries and the patients and staff of that clinic were very satisfied with the results.

Beginner Yoga Series - This series is for persons who have no experience in yoga and need detailed instruction and guidance toward developing confidence and skill levels that will allow them to feel comfortable in any of the classes at AYC.

Dharma Mittra Level 1 - These sequences have been developed over a 40 year span by the legendary teacher Dharma Mittra.  His practice will help you to become graceful, strong and flexible.  Over the past year and half I have been amazed at how flexible and strong my spine and my students spine have become.  I feel that this is the best asana practice I have ever had.  In this class you will also learn Dharma's spiritual teachings and all of the eight limbs are incorporated in this practice.

8 week Hatha Yoga series based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar- An enriching class suitable for all levels, from first time students to advanced practitioners.  Classes are progressively sequenced to cultivate awareness of the fundamentals of alignmente which leads to increased energy flow, mental clarity and peace of mind.

Zumba- An international dance exercise program that is so fun you won't know you are working out! You will learn the rhythms of many different cultures, fun Latin moves, bellydance and Indian folk dances.  Dancing is so good for the mind and spirit as well as the body.  Women especially need to do cardiovascular exercise since heart disease is the number one health issue we face.   You will burn lots of calories, tone muscles and experience the mind body connection in this class.  Recent studies in the field of brain health says that cardiovascular training is the number one thing we must do to keep our brains young and healthy.  The brain is only as healthy as our heart!
